The Western Michigan Filipino-American Association will honor visiting Governor Miguel Dominguez of Sarangani, Philippines at a dinner-potluck event this Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the First Evangelical Free Church, 3950 Burton SE corner East Paris St.  The Filipino community in Grand Rapids and the Lakeshore is invited to join the gathering.

Governor Dominguez, 32, is the recipient of a travel scholarship from the Eisenhower Fellowships, a program which allows young leaders from around the world to visit the United States to see innovations in leadership and governance.  In his second four-year term as governor, Gov. Dominguez is also a regional political leader in the Philippines.

Sarangani province is located at the southernmost tip of Mindanao island in southern Philippines. It is the most ethnically diverse province, with colorful minorities such as the T'bolis and B'laans.  Sarangani and General Santos City are considered the tuna capital of the Philippines. Most recently, boxing multi-champion Manny Pacquiao, has established residence in Sarangani province.

In addition to the above event, Governor Dominguez is also visiting International Aid, whose child survival program in the Philippines benefits Sarangani province.
