PCCM Members Celebrating Kalayaan! It was a merry, festive event, and members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce-Michigan (PCCM) were just too happy to be part of it. Yes, the Kalayaan Festival held on June 5, 2010 at Hamlich Park turned into a typical Philippine fiesta complete with music, fireworks, public dancing, cultural dances and food galore. The superabundance of food was particularly noticeable in the PCCM’s long table which was overflowing with many kinds of favorite Filipino dishes. The table was so overloaded with dishes that some of the trays and pots containing the food had to be set aside for a while and later brought out when there was available space. A festivalgoer, noting the food galore in PCCM’s table, commented that he does not believe the businessmen’s claim that the economy is down. “Why splurge on food when businesses are supposed to be down?” he said. One reason for the abundance of food on the PCCM table was the magic wand wielded by PCCM Board Member & Membership Chair, Betsy Henry. She raised the wand and asked for food. And, presto, favorite dishes of all kinds appeared on the table. Well, 25 PCCM members under the magic spell woke up early in the morning, cooked the dishes and brought them to the festival. And PCCM members and their guests partook the food with gusto, disregarding doctors’ warning against overeating. By 3 p.m. all the dishes were gone. There was no leftover, a proof that all the dishes were delicious. PCCM, just like the other Fil-Am groups under FILAMCCO, has been supporting the Kalayaan Festival because it is a worthy community undertaking in so many ways. Hope to see you again at the festival next year.  Â
